The PlenetLab Japan Consortium consists of a wide range of institutions and organizations cooperating to expand PlanetLab overlay network as well as to foster PlanetLab community in Japan. The PlanetLab Japan Consortium is currently managed by a collection of parties, U. of Tokyo, JAIST, NICT, NII and WIDE. The PlanetLab Japan Consortium is closely working with the orginal PlanetLab Consortium. The PlanetLab Japan Consortium is currently hosted by the University of Tokyo.
PlanetLab Japan can be viewed as a portal to various PlanetLab related activities in Japan (projects and working groups are linked here). One of our goals is to help reseachers in Japan conducting significant computer networking/distributed computing research using PlanetLab. We are striving to deploy PlanetLab nodes and expand the PlanetLab community in Japan, so the researchers in Japan may develop their research ideas using a large-scale real-world network resources available in PlanetLab. We are also encouraging researcher to develope competing research agenda on our own. This last goal is most represented by private PlanetLab activities gradually becoming prominent in several countries, where they develop their own PlanetLab-like overlay test-beds based on PlanetLab software, incorporating inovative (but possibly disruptive) features of their own.
